I started these pages back in '96 or so to share some chit-chat about my motorcycling interests (which are summed up by the terms "sport touring" and "VFRs", mostly). The site gets poked at and added to on an irregular basis, but hopefully someone is out there to enjoy it, and maybe even find it useful. A lot of my riding involves the California "chapter" of the Honda Sport Touring Association (and I also tend to their website), but most of the time I'm the solo or two's-company sort. I'm a daily rider, commuting on the bike and riding just about every weekend, rain or shine. Come summertime, I try to get in at least one multi-day tour. My commute is short, and the twisties are nearby (only 7 miles from home to Skyline, 20 to Alice's...), so it all adds up to only 12,000 miles a year or so. But persistence pays off: my VFR750 turned over 100,000 miles on the odometer on Boxing Day, 2004, and stills runs like a new bike. Postscript: Alas, 102,000 miles was the 750's limit. An otherwise minor front-end washout on a damp CA 84 resulted in mostly cosmetic damage worth nearly twice the book value of the bike. Given that the engine, transmission, suspension, and everything else were simply perfect, I have absolutely no doubt the bike could have gone 200,000 miles without incident. No shim swaps, ever! No discernible oil consumption between 8,000-mile changes! But the marketplace and insurance company say it's not to be. The bright side: the spot in the garage previously occupied by the trusty 750 has been filled by a pristine 2000 model, with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer. The jury is still out as to just how much of a step up this really is, but I'll have a better idea once my preferred mods are in place. Let the farkling begin! |

Routes and Rides GalleryGreat pictures of great rides make the memories last. Unfortunately, I rarely stop to smell the roses and click the shutter. But here are a few pages of images that I did manage to capture:

Farkles and FixesStuff that satisfies on every ride: an Ohlins shock and RaceTech'd fork, HotGrips, Widder 'lectrics, Corbin seat. In the winter I mount Avon ST tires, in the summer it's Pirelli Diablos. Here are a few pages relating to mods and maintenance on the RC36:
A new chapter: the VFR800FiThe Service&Farkle Blog will track the life and times of the latest addition to the stable, with an occasional special page listed here. |
